This premier athletic event features Nebraska’s finest football players. The 52nd annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game will be played at
Memorial Stadium on Saturday June 19, 2010 at 6:30 pm.
Shrine Bowl Player Selections
Dividing lines between North and South teams is Highway 30 from the western
border of Nebraska to Clarks, NE and then east on Highway 92 to Omaha.
The towns on the dividing line will be divided to equalize the total number
of players on the North and South. The cities of Lincoln and Omaha are
divided independently.
In late October each year, a letter is mailed from the Shrine Bowl Office
to all schools having a football proram in the State of Nebraska. The
coaches are asked to consider their players who are graduating as a potential
Nebraska Shrine Bowl Player. This information is returned to the Shrine
Bowl Office on a recommendation card. When the Shrine Bowl Office receives
all the cards, they are turned over to the selected coaching staff to
begin the player selection process. Each coaching staff carefully weighs
the information on the recommendation cards and makes their selections
based on pertinent information provided by their coach, reviewing films,
their knowledge of players and the number of players required at each
position. On the initial selection each coaching staff usually reviews
several hundred recommendations before making their final 35 player team.
In addition to the final selection of 35 players, a number of boys are
selected as alternates in case some decline to play or injuries prevent
their participation.
MEMBERS OF THE SHRINES FROM TANGIER, TEHAMA OR SESOSTRIS,
OR ANY SHRINE BOWL OFFICER OR STAFF, HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PART IN THE SELECTION
OF PLAYERS.
THIS IS DONE ENTIRELY BY THE COACHING STAFFS.
Thank you for your continued support of the Shrine Bowl Football Game.
